Yap, FSM – This is a correction press release regarding the article titled "Little Fire Ant (LFA) Infestations Confirmed Across Multiple Areas in Yap State," published Tuesday, September 24th. Specifically, the clarification pertains to information in the third paragraph related to LFA control methods.
The original article mentioned the use of peanut butter, suntan cream, and vegetable oil as methods to kill the invasive insects. We would like to correct this information. Peanut butter, suntan cream, and vegetable oil are used as bait to attract fire ants, not as agents to kill them. These ingredients help to lure the ants so that proper treatment can be applied.
The appropriate chemical mixtures used to eliminate Little Fire Ants include Chemical Tango. This chemical is combined with a powder ingredient called xanthan gum, along with beef liver, water, and vegetable oil to create an effective treatment. This mixture is then applied to areas where LFAs have been detected to successfully eradicate the invasive ants.
