Yap, FSM – The Department of Health Services, in collaboration with the WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) Program, has successfully conducted a series of health awareness outreach activities. This initiative was coordinated with other public health programs, including Immunization, Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD), and Preparedness and Response to Epidemics (PREP).
The outreach extended to both mainland and outer island communities, including Ruu, Makiy, Ablul, Daboch, Gitam, Dalipebinaw, Okaw, and Dugor. During these visits, health education focused on the prevention and management of diseases such as Dengue Fever, Leptospirosis, Amoebiasis, and Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease (HFMD). Emphasis was placed on the importance of water quality, sanitation, and handwashing hygiene as critical preventive measures.
Given UNICEF’s efforts to children's well-being, the outreach included engaging educational games designed to teach young kids about proper handwashing and hygiene practices. These interactive activities aimed to instill essential hygiene habits in children, contributing to the overall health and safety of the communities.
