Yap, FSM – The Department of Youth and Civic Affairs (DYCA) organized a meeting with Mr. Kevin Maitava, representing the South Pacific Community (SPC) Project Implementation Office, and Mr. Michael Yarofaitoar from the Department of Environment, Climate Change & Emergency Management (DECEM). The focus of the meeting was on designing project activities, creating a work plan, and establishing a budget to improve emergency communications. This included finalizing details for upgrading the Broadcasting system's AM transmitter. After the meeting, the DYCA team accompanied Mr. Maitava and Mr. Yarofaitoar to the Radio Station premises to inspect the existing transmitter and generator installations. The main objective of this gathering was to assess the requirements for enhancing the transmitter, addressing the need for new equipment, and installing a backup generator at the Yap Emergency Operation Center (EOC). The meeting highlighted collaborative efforts among DYCA, the South Pacific Community Project Implementation Office, and the Department of Environment, Climate Change & Emergency Management to strengthen resilience and ensure the community's readiness for natural hazards and emergencies. This work is part of the Building Safety and Resilience in the Pacific Phase II (BSRP II) project, funded by the European Union and implemented by SPC.
