On August 6, 2023, Governor Charles Chieng and his cabinet, along with Speaker
Figirlaarwon and fellow senators, participated in the first State Visit to Yap proper: Fanif
Municipality.
This event marked a collaborative effort between the Executive, Legislative, and the
Council branches of our Government to bring the government closer to the people.
The initiative came from Governor Chieng's proposal to both Speaker Figirlaarwon and
Chairman Falngin to visit each municipality on Yap proper in much the same way
historicaly done in the Outer Islands. This led to the historic first State Visit to the
Municipality of Fan if at the request of the Chief of Fanif, The Honorable Flownug.
Chief Flownug who represents the municipality to the Council of Pilung took the initiative.
to hold the first State Visit in the village of Atliw, coinciding with a dance performance
from Atliw that had represented Yap State at the recent FSM EXPO in Kosrae.
Chief Flownug opened the meeting, followed by addresses from the Governor and
Speaker. Cabinet members and senators subsequently had the opportunity to update
the people of Fanif municipality on the roles and responsibilities of both the executive
and legislative branches, as well as listen to the concerns of the community on ways to
improve governmental services, etc.
The visit was nicely concluded with the display of the Atliw dance and left the people of
Fan if with a clearer understanding of the Government's progressive direction, along with
the requests for the development of the Machoy Road and the establishment of a
community sports field .
