Yap, FSM – On Wednesday, September 11, 2024 the Honorable Governor Charles Chieng officially proclaimed September as National Recovery Month in Yap State during a ceremony held at the Yap State Memorial Hospital Conference Room. The event aimed to raise awareness about substance use and mental health disorders, emphasizing the importance of community support in recovery efforts.
The event featured a special Proclamation signing by the Honorable Governor Charles Chieng, officially designating the month of September as National Recovery Month in Yap.
National Recovery Month, established by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) in 1989, aims to raise awareness about substance use and mental health disorders, promote evidence-based treatment and recovery practices, and honor the dedication of service providers and communities that support recovery in all its forms.
During the event, there were speeches delivered to raise awareness about the importance of recovery and the impact it has on individuals and communities. Additionally, several staff members from the Department of Health Services (DHS) were recognized and awarded for their outstanding work in the department.
In celebration of National Recovery Month, various events and activities will occur throughout September, aiming to enhance public understanding and encourage individuals to seek help when needed.
