Inaugural Youth Chess Tournament Triumph

On January 20, 2024, at 1 pm, the first-ever Yap Youth Chess Club Tournament took place on the second floor of the Media and Protocol Building. The event was jointly organized by the Division of Youth Services of the Department of Youth and Civic Affairs and the Yap Youth Chess Club, spearheaded by Dwyte Pong.

Refreshments were provided for all participants, and the competition concluded with Dwyte Pong in first place, followed by Zacharias Diaz in second, and Josh Gajdusek in third.

The winners received a $5 phone card and vouchers valued at $30, $20, and $10 at YCA for first, second, and third place, respectively. The success of this event has sparked plans for future collaborations between the Yap Youth Chess Club and the department, with anticipation for upcoming youth chess tournaments in the State of Yap and Outer Islands of Yap.
