Colonia, Yap–On July 8, 2024, the International Office of Migration and Planning and Budget and Disaster Coordination Office began their training on the Essentials of Humanitarian Assistance (EHA) and Initial Damage Assessment (IDA). This program was a four-day intensive workshop consisting of five modules that began on July 8, 2024, and ended on July 11, 2024, at the Small Business Conference Room. Some of the departments and offices in attendance included: Public Works & Transportation, the Red Cross Society, Seaport and Transportation, Environmental Protection Agency, the Governor’s Office, the Department of Youth and Civic Affairs, and Catholic Relief Sources.
The training is designed for participants who have emergency response and preparedness backgrounds or those who work in organizations that have an emergency response mandate. Each day had specific modules that were discussed and worked on. All workshops had activities dealing with the day’s topic, especially on how to incorporate humanitarian virtues into responding to natural disasters. On Thursday, July 1, all participants received a certificate of completion verifying that they were trained to incorporate essential humanitarian assistance when preparing for, going through, and dealing with the aftermath of a disaster or crisis.
