JICA Meets with the DYCA Director and Boat Ride - January 15, 2024 // DYCA


Colonia, Yap - On January 10, 2024, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) made a courtesy visit with Mr. Alex Gilfiley, Director of the Department of Youth and Civics Affairs (DYCA).

The JICA team comprised of Ms. Asuka Akahoshi, the Coordinator for Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers, Ms. Jovianne W. Phillip, the Program Officer at JICA, and Ms. Vivian Legarofyang, the Department of Resources and Development Training Coordinator.


Mr. John Waayan Fillmed, the state webmaster, attended the meeting with Director Gilfiley and discussed collaborative programs with JICA that would help DYCA's efforts in promoting youth, culture, and public initiatives. JICA offered potential volunteering project-based funding programs that would benefit the department's goals and objectives.


After the meeting, Director Gilfiley invited the JICA Team on a tour on January 12, 2024, where they visited Tarang (Okeefe’s Island) and Rumung Island, where the largest stone money on Yap is recorded.


Accompanying the JICA team on the tour were Mr. Eijan Ruwetmag, Acting-Chief- of Media, Director Alex Gilfiley, Ms. Patricia Gureb, Administrative Officer, Ms. Ursula Luchuu, Youth Awareness Officer, and lastly the captain of the boat Mr. Jeffery Marbey, HPO Officer.
