Legislative Highlights: Yap State Legislature's Dynamic Session Recap // Monday, May 13, 2024 // DYCA PIO

Colonia, Yap – On Monday, May 13th, 2024, the 11th Legislature of the State of Yap convened its 13th regular session at 1 pm in the Legislature Chamber. Key attendees included Speaker Nicholas Figirlaarwon, Vice Speaker Theodore Rutun, Floor Leader Terrance Fong, Senator John Mafel, Senator Victor Bamog, Senator Ann-Marie Laamar, Senator Liyon Sulog, Senator Gabriel Ramoloilug, Senator John Masiwemai, Senator Pius Talimeisei, Chief Clerk Dee Libian, and Legislative Counsel Genevieve Mangefel. The session agenda encompassed discussions on messages from the Governor and other government branches, the introduction of bills and resolutions, committee reports, and various communications. Notable legislative actions included the passage of three bills addressing fiscal appropriations and infrastructure maintenance, along with the confirmation of Theophilus Thinnifel as Director of the Department of Health Services (DHS). However, a resolution confirming Benedict Rikin as Director of the Office of Administrative Services was not passed. A highlight of the session was Misc. Comm. No. 11-53, involving a letter to the Speaker from the 2024 Outer Island High School (OIHS) Class President, soliciting in-kind donations for its commencement exercise reception.
