Yap, FSM – Only 5 more days until Waab Taguw Day, aka World Tuna Day, co-hosted by the Department of Resources & Development (R&D) and the Department of Youth & Civic Affairs (DYCA). The Youth Division and PIO at DYCA, alongside DOE Charles Yilaarow, are working together in organizing 8 youth activities and prizes for relative winners taking place at Pine Bar & Grill.
The first activity is the coconut husking, where 7 copra will be given to competitors to see who finishes husking all copra. Followed by a coconut grinding competition, in which participants are given 1 coconut and races to split and grind all coconut meat first. There will be only 1 winner.
There will be 2 categories, high school and elementary levels, swimming competition for first, second, and third place for those who can swim the fastest. Likewise, musical chairs for all high school and elementary students will take place and the last participant will be declared the winner. Then a youth balloon popping competition for students in elementary with 2 teams of 5 participants race to pop the balloons tied to a chair, with only 1 team winning.
Ongoing activities is a video-clip contest, open to any youth to create a video/TikTok no longer than 1 minute about tuna; the video-clip will be based on creativity and presentation for first, second, and third place winners. Similarly, there will be an art contest open to all to create an art piece of drawing, painting, carving, or sculpting about tuna fish. Additionally, a poetry contest for any interested high school and college students to take part in drafting any style of short poem about tuna fish, and only 1 winner. Furthermore, all work must be submitted by 1pm on Sunday, September 1st, to be judged.
