Yap, FSM – According to a diplomatic note addressed to the Honorable Governor Chieng from the U.S. Embassy, there are educational opportunities available for the Class of 2029 at the U.S. Merchant Marine, Coast Guard, and Air Force Academies. The Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) has reserved slots at the U.S. Merchant Marine and Coast Guard Academies, with potential additional slots at the Naval and Air Force Academies for qualified applicants, subject to space availability.
Qualifying nominees must meet the following requirements:
Be single with no dependents and have reached the age of 17 at the time of nomination.
Be a high school graduate.
Rank in the top 10% of their secondary class.
Meet the minimum qualifications for the SAT and TOEFL.
Be highly proficient in English.
Candidates will be evaluated based on academic performance, leadership ability, moral character, physical fitness, and commitment to attend a service academy.
Also, note that each service academy has different deadlines for various aspects of the candidate package. However, nominations from FSM national or state governments must be submitted to the U.S. Embassy by Monday, December 2, 2024.
