Yap, FSM – The Committee of the Whole (C.O.W.) of the 11th Legislature of the State of Yap has scheduled a public hearing regarding Gov. Comm. No. 11-291. The hearing will take place on Monday, October 28, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at the Legislative Chamber.
Gov. Comm. No. 11-291 involves a request from the Governor seeking the Legislature’s approval of proposed legislation titled the "Attorney Retention Act," which relates to U.S. Military development matters. This proposed legislation aims to authorize the Government to engage private attorneys to represent Yap State and its instrumentalities, ensuring access to the necessary legal expertise for handling complex matters effectively.
The upcoming public hearing will feature key witnesses who will provide important perspectives on the proposed "Attorney Retention Act." Governor TH Charles S. Chieng and Lt. Governor TH Francis Itimai will represent the executive branch. Chief Justice TH Cyprian Manmaw will offer the judicial perspectives, and the Chairman of the Council of Pilung, TH Thomas Falngin, and Chairman of the Council of Tamol, TH Paul Marlul, will represent traditional leadership. Additionally, personnel from the Office of the Attorney General will provide legal expertise on matters involving U.S. Military development.
