Recent Courtesy Call Strengthens Collaboration Between State and FSM R&D for Tourism Enhancement

Colonia Yap – In a significant development aimed at fostering collaboration and enhancing the tourism sector in the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM), Governor Chieng of Yap State hosted a courtesy call for the FSM Department of Resources and Development (R&D) Delegation, led by Assistant Secretary Bermance Aldis. 


Assistant Secretary Aldis oversees the Division of Tourism under the FSM Department of Resources and Development. During the meeting, key discussions centered around air transportation and initiatives spearheaded by the national government, including the establishment of an airline task force to explore the feasibility of introducing additional carriers to serve the FSM. 


Furthermore, the Department has successfully secured a $1.8 million grant earmarked for capacity building and marketing. In collaboration with the Yap Visitors Bureau, some of the tourism projects in Yap will be expedited utilizing this grant. Mr. Aldis informed Governor Chieng and Lt. Governor Itimai that FSM R&D is also gearing up for its annual R&D Conference, scheduled to take place in the last week of January 2024. 


In a strategic move, the Department is exploring additional grants under the Ridge to Reef NGO to facilitate visits to protected areas in the FSM, enhancing the overall tourism experience, a new approach that would definitely bring on positive change to FSM as a destination. 


The courtesy call concluded with a commitment from both the State and the FSM R&D delegation to collaborate closely, working in joint efforts to elevate and improve the tourism sector in the FSM.
