Dechmur, Tamil –Over the weekend, on Saturday, June 1st, 2024, the village of Dechmur in Tamil Municipality sponsored Upward Bound (UB) students for a day of cultural enrichment. The students were divided into two groups: the young boys joined the village men to learn and practice patching the roof of the men's house, while the young ladies stayed at the community meeting house to practise local cooking with ingredients such as crab, breadfruit, and banana. Additionally, the young UB ladies practiced traditional arts and crafts, including making leis and weaving. The day concluded with the UB students collecting trash in the village. This event aimed to immerse the students in their cultural heritage and teach them valuable traditional skills.
