Yap Delegation Enriches Cultural Ties Through Micronesian Children Exchange Program in Japan Friday, June 28, 2024 // DYCA PIO

Yap, FSM – On the early morning of Tuesday, July 2nd, 2024, the Yap delegation arrived back in Yap State via UA from Japan. The delegation, consisting of 12 students aged 12 to 14 years old and two chaperones, Sports Coordinator Constantine Gilbeengin and Youth Awareness Officer Ursula Luuchu for the Department of Youth and Civic Affairs Youth Services Division, participated in the Micronesian Children Exchange program. The Micronesian Children Exchange Program aims to foster cultural understanding and mutual respect among young people from different regions, providing them with enriching experiences that broaden their perspectives and strengthen international friendships.


During their time in Japan, the delegation visited various notable places, including a shrine, the National Diet (Japan's legislature), and several schools, and presented a carving of a stone money to each location. On Friday, June 28th, 2024, the delegation performed at Takato Elementary School and interacted with the students. The following day, Saturday, June 29th, they experienced Japanese culture through an indigo dyeing activity in Fujisawa. Their visit concluded with a farewell party at Koyoken restaurant, attended by delegations from other states.
