Yap DHS Communicable Disease Weekly Report Week 40

Yap, FSM – For Epiweek 40, from September 30 to October 6, the first Alert Status was Severe Acute Respiratory Illness (SARI) with a total of 4 cases. The SARI cases are, two Bronchiolitis cases, one Chronic Obstructive pulmonary disease and one Acute Exacerbation of Asthma. Patient age ranges from 1 to 60+ years.


The Second Alert status is Diarrheal cases with a total of 6 reported by OPD Main hospital and Eauripik Dispensary in OI.

 

There was an increase in influenza-like illness (ILI) during Epiweek 40.


There were a total of 10 cases reported by OPD Yap Main Hospital and Eauripik Dispensary in OI.

 

OPD reported 2 DLI cases this week but both were tested negative for Dengue and Leptospirosis.

 

Other than the syndromes mentioned, there were no reports on Acute Fever and Rash (AFR) Prolonged Fever and Unusual Events.

 

The Yap Lab reported 3 positive cases of Chlamydia and 1 positive case of Trichomonas Vaginalis.

 

Chlamydia is a sexually transmitted infection (STI) caused by bacteria. Most people with chlamydia

Do not show symptoms, but the infection can cause serious complications if left untreated. Regular

screening can help catch asymptomatic cases of chlamydia.

 

Trichomoniasis (trich) is another STI that is common, but curable. A parasite causes trichomonas

Vaginalis infection. Most people who have trich don’t have symptoms. Treatment for trich involves

taking antibiotics. Without treatment, trich can last for months or even years. It won’t go away on its

own.

 

Out of the 23 reporting sites, 16 sites reported this week with only 2 sites reporting syndromes. The

7 other sites did not report this week.
