Yap, FSM— Twelve graduates of Yap High School, who participated in the Upward Bound (UB) Program under COM-FSM, Yap Campus, celebrated their achievements in a ceremony over the weekend on Saturday, July 27th, at iBoom.
The event began with the reading of the mission statement by Christina Tinmed. Master of Ceremonies Jamee Fathal and Chanel Hudson guided the program, with the Governor’s and DYCA Director proxies, State Court Chief Justice Manmaw, representative from Bank of FSM Mr. Mark Figir, COM-FSM Student Services Coordinator Mr. Allentino Ruiguifmal, and Yap High School Vice Principal Mr. Raymond Hasugulibug was in attendance. The keynote address was delivered by Ivan En Kadannged, who shared his journey from a Yap High School student and UB participant to a professional. He emphasized the importance of education, resilience, and honesty, urging graduates to seek new experiences and persist in their efforts.
UB Director Serphin opened the ceremony with remarks, stating, “Anything is possible if you put the dedication into education.” The Vice Principal of Yap High School also spoke, encouraging the students to face challenges and seize opportunities with determination.
Certificates were presented by Sarah Mooteb, recognizing the graduates for their four years of work and achievement. Ivan En Kadannged expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to address the graduates, urging them to embrace new challenges and stay true to their values.
Graduate speech, given by Audrey Yagatinag Thilwey, reflected gratitude and hope. The student thanked the instructors, classmates, and underclassmen, offering advice on respect and perseverance. She shared personal challenges and highlighted the support provided by the UB Program.
The ceremony included awards for underclassmen, presented by Director Serphin, for perfect attendance, academic excellence, and participation in the 10th Micro Games. Sarah Mooteb acknowledged the integration of STEM activities into the curriculum, encouraging students to engage in hands-on learning experiences.
Entertainment was provided by the underclassman, a group of young ladies performing a hip-hop dance. Chanel delivered the closing remarks, with announcements about the resumption of regular tutoring sessions at Yap High School on September 2nd. Refreshments were provided to all attendees.
