Yap, FSM – Yap State Health Department has released its Communicable Disease Report for Week 48, detailing significant health findings within the ward. The report highlights 7 Severe Acute Respiratory Illness (SARI) cases, which include diagnoses of severe pneumonia, atypical pneumonia, cough with shortness of breath, asthma, and two cases of bronchiolitis. Affected individuals fall within various age brackets: 0-4 years, 18-44 years, and 60+ years, indicating a wide range of vulnerability within the community.
Furthermore, the Main Hospital and Ulithi Health Center in Falalop reported a collective total of 7 cases of influenza-like illnesses. The Outpatient Department (OPD) also identified one case of Dengue-like illness, later confirmed as leptospirosis. The Woleai Health Center documented a single diarrheal case.
In addition, the Yap State Lab reported 1 positive case of chlamydia, 1 positive case of Gonorrhea, 1 positive case of Co-Infection (Chlamydia & Gonorrhea), 1 positive case of Salmonella, 1 Blood Culture, and 2 positive cases of ESBL Escherichia Coli.
ESBL Escherichia Coli stands for Extended Spectrum Beta-Lactamase. Beta-lactamases are enzymes produced by some bacteria that may make them resistant to some antibiotics. ESBL production is associated with a bacterium usually found in the bowel.
All 23 sites reported this week with syndromic illnesses reported by the main hospital, Ulithi Health Center in Falalop Ulithi and Woleai Health Center in Falalop Woleai.
For Epiweek 48, there were no reports of Acute Fever and Rash, Prolong Fever and Unusual Events.
