Yap State Hosts Key Dinner Reception with Australian Ambassador: A Night of Collaboration and Future Plans

Colonia, Yap – Last night, the heads of Yap State, including Vice Speaker Theodore Rutun, Chief Justice Cyprian Manmaw, Lt. Governor Francis Itimai, and DYCA Director Alex Gilfiley, held a dinner reception with Australian Ambassador Her Excellency Jenny Grant-Curnow and her staff member Jermis Noket at the Pine Club. 


Alongside DYCA protocol staff and Yap State police officers were present to ensure safety and assist with logistical arrangements, while other duties were managed to facilitate a smooth and successful event. This event aimed to discuss the purpose of the Ambassador's visit and her scheduled meetings.


The evening started with DYCA Director Alex Gilfiley with opening remarks, and then Lt. Governor Itimai with welcoming remarks on behalf of the Yap State Leaderships, to recognize the presence of state leaders and express gratitude for the Ambassador’s visit. The Lt. Governor also conveyed appreciation for Australia's generous support ranging from scholarships, grants, and many others for the Yap State.


During the event, Ambassador Grant-Curnow highlighted Australia's $4.1 million donation for gender equality projects, solar energy projects, and other fundings in hospital improvements, social work, and online safety workshops. She also discussed ongoing education initiatives, development projects such as the women’s house and Yap Swimming Club and explored future partnerships and collaborations.
