Weno, Chuuk— Yap State sent off the debaters for this year’s National Law Day Debate in Chuuk. The debaters were Phancie R. Yalwairh, and Kelilah B. Leegyad with Anthony Rutmag as the alternate debater, students from Yap Catholic High School. The coach was Joshua T. Libyanfinelab Tun, an English Language Arts 9, Geometry teacher, and Club Advisor for the AV, Debate, Yearbook, and Coding Clubs at Yap Catholic High School. This year’s theme was: “Be it resolved that the Federated States of Micronesia should become a signatory member of the 1951 Refugee Convention.” The two-day event went from July 11-12, 2024 at the FSM Supreme Court in Chuuk State. The representatives delivered a compelling and well-structured argument in the recent debate, showcasing their deep understanding of the topic and exceptional public speaking skills. Their ability to effectively address counter-arguments and engage the audience demonstrated their thorough preparation and dedication.

1st Runner Up: Pohnpei State: Oh Lady Mercy(OLM) High School
2nd Runner Up: Chuuk State
3rd Runner Up: Kosrae State
4th Runner Up: Yap State
