“Yap Welcomes Distinguished Guests: A Memorable Visit with Rear Admiral Huffman and U.S. Embassy Delegation” - Thursday, January 18, 2024//DYCA

Yap, FSM — On the morning of Sunday, January 14, 2024, the protocol team received Rear Admiral Gregory Huffman and his delegation, of the Joint Region Marianas (JRM). The delegation from JRM including members of the U.S. Embassy was Admiral Gregory Huffman and his spouse Mrs. Judy Huffman, Assistant Defense Attaché Kyle Papish, Commander of Senior Defense Official/Defense Attaché Jason Neal, Lt. Commander Samantha Ponce, Commander Master Chief Cody Webster, and his spouse Cindy Webster, Captain Troy Brown and his Spouse Ella Brown, and Public Affairs Officer Tanya King.


On the following day, Admiral Huffman and his delegation began their busy schedule with a breakfast meeting with T.H. Lt. Governor Itamai, DYCA Director Alex Gilfiley, and A.G. Gallen. Afterward, they met with Mr. Tioti Teburea, the Dean of the College of FSM and FSM Maritime Institute followed by another meeting with the Attorney General (A.G.) Mr. Joses Gallen. The JRM team progressed on a tour of Yap Airport and Seaport.


The dignitaries also paid courtesy calls to Yap State government leaders in their different respective branches. They met with both Governor Chieng and Lt. Governor Itmai, Speaker Figirlaarwon, and members of the 11th Yap State Legislature, concluding the day with the Council of Pilung and the Council of Tamol.


On the evening of January 16th at Manta Ray Bay Resort (Mnuw) restaurant, T.H. Governor Chieng and T.H. Lt. Governor Itimai hosted a farewell dinner for the JRM and U.S. Embassy delegation before their departure. During the farewell dinner, Governor Chieng graciously thanked the entire JRM and US Embassy delegation for their visit and reiterated that the visit embraces and reaffirms the commitments on both sides. Admiral Huffman also expressed gratitude and thanked the Yap State leadership for the hospitality and partnership that both Yap State and the U.S. have had for many years.
