Blue Prosperity Micronesia Launches Ocean Use Survey to Support Sustainable Marine Resource Management in Yap State Thursday, March 21, 2024//DYCA Web

The Blue Prosperity Micronesia (BPM) has initiated the Ocean Use Survey (OUS) project in collaboration with stakeholders, aiming to promote sustainable marine resource growth in Yap and the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM). The project was officially launched with a planning meeting involving members of the project’s planning group (PG), including representatives from the Council of Pilung and Tamol.

The OUS, facilitated through the online SeaSketch mapping tool, seeks to gather data from respondents to identify and map valued or utilized marine areas, thereby aiding in the evaluation of tradeoffs and the formulation of solutions aligned with planning objectives.

The input from the community is particularly emphasized to ensure their needs are considered in the Marine Spatial Planning (MSP) process. The collected data will contribute to the development of a comprehensive Marine Spatial Plan for FSM, aiming to safeguard 30% of its waters while promoting sustainable economic growth. All stakeholders and community members are encouraged to participate in the survey to contribute to the creation of a healthier marine environment for present and future generations.
