The Department of Public Safety, Fire Division responded to fire incidents recently in Maap. The firefighter team was able to dominate the fire. However, the team took almost 10 hours to finally settle the fire down due to major areas being on fire and lack of access around the fire. According to the fire department, a major area in the Maap community had been burned to the ground. While the Department was still monitoring the fire, another fire started in Thol. Other similar incidents occurred before that almost burned our only Sports Complex down.
The Fire Department is seeking extra help to prevent this kind of situation from happening, as we all know the whole island of Yap is getting hotter and hotter. We should prevent fire from burning others' property, land, garden, etc. Despite the little rain we had each day, week, and month, the department needed us, the citizens of the island, to do our part. As we all know the Yap Day celebration is around the corner and we don't want our guests to see our Island on FIRE. It takes days, weeks, and months to turn the burned area into a healthy green color again.
