Yap, FM –The Office of the Attorney General is deeply concerned about the rising number of road accidents caused by drunk driving. Since February, there have been 11 reported accidents linked to alcohol, with nearly half involving passengers. Sadly, one life has already been lost.
We urge all drivers to act responsibly and never drive under the influence of alcohol. Drunk driving is dangerous and can lead to serious injuries or death. Every driver has a duty to protect themselves, their passengers, and others on the road. It is always better to be safe than sorry.
Additionally, there is growing concern over underage drinking, including incidents happening in schools. Since February, authorities have prosecuted 19 minors under 18 and 5 young adults aged 18-21 for illegal alcohol consumption. Parents and guardians must guide their children and talk to them about the risks of drinking alcohol, as it can harm their future, education, and personal growth.
To the youth of Yap State: You are the future of this community. Avoid peer pressure and make smart choices that will benefit your future and the future of our State. What you decide today will shape your tomorrow.
The Office of the Attorney General warns that the Department of Public Safety will strictly enforce laws on alcohol use and drunk driving. There will be no leniency for those who break these laws. We are committed to keeping our communities safe and urge everyone to act responsibly.
