DWP&T: Public Urged to Segregate Trash as Main Dumpsite Reaches Capacity, Increased Roadside Waste - Friday, February 9, 2024//Yap Media

Yap, FSM –In a bid to address the imminent capacity crisis at the main dumpsite, the Department of Public Works and Transportation has implemented new measures, urging the public to segregate their trash when visiting the facility. This move aims to streamline waste disposal by ensuring that different categories of waste are properly sorted, facilitating efficient processing and minimizing environmental impact.

To bolster this initiative, the department has stationed security guards at the dumpsite to assist and guide individuals to the designated areas for disposing of specific types of waste. With their expertise, visitors can be directed to appropriate locations, thereby reducing confusion and promoting the correct segregation of recyclables, organic waste, and non-recyclable materials.

The urgency to segregate waste stems from the fact that the main dumpsite is nearing its maximum capacity. Unfortunately, alternative dumpsites are currently unavailable, making it crucial for all visitors to adhere to proper waste management practices. By implementing these measures, the Department of Public Works and Transportation hopes to extend the lifespan of the main dumpsite while exploring long-term solutions to address the growing waste challenge in the region.

Simultaneously, DPW&T has noticed an alarming increase in trash and waste found along the side of roads. This unfortunate trend not only poses environmental hazards but also tarnishes the aesthetics of the local area. To combat this issue effectively, the Department encourages residents and businesses alike to take collective responsibility for their waste and dispose of it properly at designated dumpsites, rather than resorting to illegal roadside dumping.

By following the guidance provided by security guards and adhering to proper waste disposal practices, individuals can play a vital role in preserving the environment and ensuring the efficient functioning of waste management systems. #waste #yapstate #yap #dumpsite #dump #trash #micronesia #yapsite
