Embarking on Cultural Bridges: Micronesian Youth Journey to Japan // Monday, May 13, 2024 // DYCA PIO

Yap, FSM – Ms. Ursula Luchuu, the Youth Awareness Officer, and Mr. Constantine Gilbeengin, the Youth Sports Coordinator, both from the Department of Youth and Civic Affairs (DYCA), alongside 12 children aged between 10 and 14, will embark from Yap State on June 23rd, 2024, bound for Tokyo, Japan. This journey marks their participation in the Japan and Micronesian Island Children Exchange Program. Notably, four children are from Gagil Elementary School, two from Tamilang Elementary School, three from St. Mary’s School, two from Yap Catholic High School (YCHS), and one from Faith Christian Academy (FCA). Their return is anticipated on July 2nd, 2024.


The overarching goal of the program is to foster cross-cultural communication and interaction among young Japanese and Micronesian individuals. Through this exchange, participants will have the chance to engage themselves in each other's cultures, traditions, and ways of life, thus promoting mutual understanding.
