Yap, FSM – According to our good friends at the CTSI, a coordinated rescue operation was conducted yesterday for a crewmember of the bulk cargo ship MV Seastar Vulcan after the ship’s electrical engineer reported severe stomach pain while the vessel was at the pilot boarding ground. The cargo ship was en route to China from Papua New Guinea.
The situation was initiated when the ship's captain, concerned about the well-being of the sick crewmember, contacted the ship owner. The ship owner subsequently reached out to the vessel’s agent, CTSI, for assistance. CTSI quickly contacted the Department of Health Services
(DHS), the Office of Planning and Budget(OPB), and the Yap Fishing Authority (YFA), who worked together to rent a boat and organize the rescue.
The rescue boat successfully retrieved the ailing engineer from the MV SeaStar Vulcan, and he was transported safely to receive medical attention.
