Fresh Local Catch Arrived – April 18, 2025 April 21, 2025, /// DYCA PIO

The Yap Fishing Authority (YFA) was pleased to welcome its fishing vessel early on the morning of Friday, April 18th, 2025. The vessel docked at YFA headquarters at  5:00 AM and immediately began offloading the latest catch from the sea.

As scheduled, the YFA retail shop opened at 8:00 AM, ready to offer the community a fresh and abundant supply of locally caught seafood. The catch totaled more than 1,000 pounds and included a healthy mix of fish types. Around 60% of the haul consisted of pelagic species—fish that live in the open ocean such as wahoo (milchad), tuna dog food (Yisul), yellow fin (Taguw), dog tooth (Yisul), rainbow runner (fofow) and mahi mahi (dabar)—while the remaining 40% were bottom fish like red snapper(gadaw), which are typically found near the seafloor.

All seafood was stored to maintain the highest quality and freshness. YFA continues to support sustainable fishing practices and remains committed to providing the people of Yap with fresh, local seafood straight from the source.
