Yap, FSM – “We have lost a lot of sales and almost no customers come into our store because of the situation with the Ganir Bridge.” according to a Blue Lagoon (EMI) employee. Now, we’re finally on to the light at the end of the tunnel with better news.
According to Yap State’s Governor’s letter to the president of the FSM on September 2, 2024, Secretary Carlson Apis at the Department of Transportation, Communications, & Infrastructure (TC&I) and Office of Planning & Budget Director Liyon Tun “...has agreed that breaking-grounds for the projects for [the highly anticipated Ganir Bridge and Northern Roads in Yap State] is set for December 2024, this year”
The Northern Primary Road, along with the Ganir Bridge project, has been pending for more than two decades, economically devastating enterprises throughout Yap State, namely the Colonia area. Along with economic disruptions, the commuting around town areas by locals has also been negatively impacted. The repair of this bridge will mark a new day for Yap State as it will enhance connectivity and improve transportation around the lagoon area. The abandoned bridge has also created medical evacuation issues as medical transportation has to take longer routes to areas nearby. The bridge is part of the Yap State Government’s continued efforts with the National Government to repair and upgrade critical infrastructure for the benefit of Yap's communities and economy.
Further details on the groundbreaking event and the timeline for the project's completion will be announced in the coming months.
