Colonia, Yap— A team of International Specialist doctors from Singapore arrived in Yap State to collaborate with local healthcare professionals. The team, including the Director of the Department of Health Services (DHS) Theophilus Thinnifel, Dr. Norman Kambo, and the Chairwoman for the Board at DHS Martina Reichhardt, paid a courtesy call with the esteemed 11th Legislature Members for an oversight session.

The meeting was scheduled at 1:00 PM on Thursday, July 25th, at the Yap State Legislature (YSL) Chamber. Speaker Nicholas Figirlaarwon, Senator Pius, Senator Ann-Marie Laamar, Senator Liyon Sulog, Senator John Mafel, Senator Gabriel Ramoloilug, Senator Victor Bamog, and Floor Leader Terrence Fong were in attendance.

The oversight session aims to discuss training, equipment costs, human resources, machine requirements, and information on previously diagnosed patients with kidney failure. The international specialists had explained the steps and processes for diagnosis and treatment, including the two primary methods for toxin removal from the body—Parenteral Dialysis and Hemodialysis. They will also discuss the benefits and recommendations for different types of patients.

This collaborative effort seeks to enhance Yap State's healthcare capabilities, specifically in addressing kidney failure and related health issues. The visiting doctors provided insights into the practical aspects of setting up a sustainable dialysis program on the island, including the necessary infrastructure, such as sewage, electricity, and power requirements. They also address the potential impact on families, the local economy, and the overall feasibility of the program.

This visit marks a significant step towards improving healthcare services in Yap State, leveraging international expertise to support local health initiatives and ensure better outcomes for patients with kidney problems.
