Maap, Yap – The Wa’ab Community Health Center (CHC) and the Department of Health Services will be conducting the annual free test screening for cholesterol, kidney function, hemoglobin, hemoglobin A1C, and fasting blood sugar. Knowing your cholesterol level is crucial, as high levels can increase the risk of strokes and heart attacks. Understanding these levels allows individuals to take proactive steps to improve health and reduce the risk of these conditions.
The screening is open to all men and women aged 35 years and older, as well as individuals younger than 35 who have obesity or a family history of heart disease and/or diabetes. The first screening is scheduled at the Maap/Rumung CHC site next week Monday, July 8th, to Friday, July 12th, 2024. Screenings will begin at 5:30 am and continue until 7:30 am, with sites closing at 3:00 pm each day. Transportation will be available but must be coordinated with the respective WCHC site.
Participants are advised to avoid eating, drinking, chewing betelnut, or smoking after midnight the day before the screening and should only resume these activities after the blood test.
