Tomil, Yap – The Wa’ab Community Health Center (CHC) and the Department of Health Services will be conducting the annual free test screening for cholesterol, kidney function, hemoglobin, which is tested for the blood count for anemia, hemoglobin A1C, which is tested for the blood sugar for diabetes, and fasting blood sugar. Knowing your cholesterol level is crucial, as high levels can increase the risk of strokes and heart attacks. Understanding these levels allows individuals to take proactive steps to improve health and reduce the risk of these conditions.
The screening is open to all men and women aged 35 years and older, as well as individuals younger than 35 who have obesity or a family history of heart disease and/or diabetes. The first screening is scheduled at the Tomil CHC site from Monday, July 15th, to Friday, July 19th, 2024. Screenings will begin at 5:30 am and continue until 7:30 am, with sites closing at 3:00 pm each day. Transportation will be available but must be coordinated with the respective WCHC site.
Participants are advised to avoid eating, drinking, chewing betelnut, or smoking after midnight the day before the screening and should only resume these activities after the blood test.
