Rull, Yap –"Anything is possible if we put our minds to it. Everything we plan to do comes with challenges; we just have to endure each one and stay positive. Not everything is a walk in the park," expressed a Milew community member, reflecting on the success of the event.
On Saturday, June 29, 2024, the Milew Community Youth Organization, with support from the Milew Community, conducted a Health Fair in collaboration with Waab Community Health Center(WCHC) and the Green Climate Fund-Food Security Livelihood Program. The event took place at the Milew Multi-Purpose Center located at the Old Airport in Lamer, Rull.
The primary aim of the Health Fair was to promote local food consumption and foster community unity. The event featured local cooking demonstrations by the three villages of Milew: Yinuf, Luwech, and Lamer. Attendees also had access to free health screenings, a crucial service for those without transportation to health clinics or hospitals. The turnout for health screenings was a success, highlighting the community's need for accessible healthcare.
The Luwech Women's Association hosted a successful booth, selling local produce such as peppers, cabbages, bok choy, and bell peppers from their nursery. The youth and community members delivered speeches on important topics, including flu prevention, emotional health, gaslighting, and the promotion of local food.
Prizes were awarded by the Green Climate Fund-Food Security Livelihood Program to those who demonstrated exceptional efforts, including local cooks, hard-working youth members, and community participants. Fuel vouchers were also given to individuals who significantly contributed to the event's preparation and execution. The Health Fair was a successful and impactful event, showcasing the community's strength and commitment to health and local food promotion.
