Unsettled Weather Brings Much-Needed Rain to Drought-Stricken Yap // Friday, May 24, 2024 // DYCA PIO

Yap, FSM – This week, as of May 21st, 2024, the weekly regional weather outlook from the National Weather Service in Guam forecasted a busy pattern in place across the region this week with Invest 93W generating unsettled weather in western Micronesia and an upper-level trough just west of Yap and Palau, fueling heavier showers and thunderstorms associated with 93W. Exceptional drought persists at Yap, Ulithi, and Fais, but 93W, along with the upper-level trough, will bring showers to these islands, in what could be their wettest week this year. Of note, based on data received so far, and compared to full historical data for May, Ulithi has the driest May and April-May in 41 years of record keeping.
