The Department of Health and Services issued an alert last week after one case of Severe Acute Respiratory Infection (SARI) was confirmed. The patient was diagnosed with pneumonia caused by an unknown organism but has already been discharged. A total of five cases of flu-like illness were reported. Out of these, two patients tested positive for flu in the lab, two were diagnosed with upper respiratory infections, and one had a lower respiratory infection.

Three people also went to health centers in Faraulap and Piig with diarrhea symptoms. In addition, one person showed symptoms similar to dengue, but lab results came back negative for both dengue and leptospirosis. One more patient was reported with a long-lasting fever.

There were no reported cases of fever with rash or any other unusual health events during this time. Reports were received from the Main Hospital Outpatient Department, Faraulap Dispensary, and Piig Dispensary.

Lab tests last week also confirmed the presence of several infections. These included one case each of chlamydia, drug-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae, and MRSA. There were also two cases of Influenza A, one case of Influenza A H1, and one case of Campylobacter bacteria from a stomach illness panel.

The Department of Health is continuing to monitor the situation and reminds everyone to follow good hygiene practices and visit the hospital if they feel unwell.
