Yap Health Report Week 36: Rise in STIs and Confirmed Leptospirosis Cases in Recent Week

Yap, FSM – According to the Yap State Department of Health Services Communicable Disease report for September 2nd to September 8th, a total of 1,122 patients were recorded. Of these, 1,095 were reported with Non syndromic cases, 4 with diarrheal illnesses, 4 with Dengue-Like Illness (DLI), 18 with Influenza-Like Illness (ILI), and 1 case of Severe Acute Respiratory Illness (SARI).


The laboratory report for this period also indicates a total of 183 cases of various sexually transmitted infections (STIs). 


Additionally, a case of Leptospirosis was confirmed by the lab this week. Leptospirosis is a bacterial infection that affects both people and animals. Symptoms include fever, headache, chills, muscle aches, vomiting or nausea, jaundice (yellowing of the skin and eyes), and redness.
