Yap, FSM – The Yap Historic Preservation Office, at the Department of Youth & Civic Affairs (DYCA), successfully completed two significant cultural preservation projects in Maap by the deadline of September 30, 2024. As part of the ongoing efforts to preserve Yap’s cultural heritage, the projects focused on restoring historical landmarks and promoting traditional skills.
On Tuesday, October 1st, the DYCA team visited the villages of Amin and Toruw to observe the completed work and engage with the local communities. In Amin, a stone path restoration project was completed by the community, revitalizing an important cultural and historical pathway. Then, in Toruw, the Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) project involved carving the Chugin canoe display, a traditional cultural artifact, which local artisan Edmond Pasan skillfully created.
