Yap, FM- Government leaders, community representatives, and partner organizations came together in Yap for a two-day workshop focused on ending violence against women and girls. The event, held on April 9–10, 2025, aimed to improve coordination, share information, and build strong partnerships to support women and girls' safety and rights.
The workshop began with the introduction of the consultation by Lululeen Santos from the South Pacific Community. With participants from various organizations from the State of Yap like Yap Women’s Association, Gender Support Office of Yap, Tamil Youth Club, Representation Groups from Weloy and the Outer Islands of Yap. The event opened with remarks from Director Alex Gilfiley, DYCA Director and FSM Gender Development Officer Jackson Joseph. Participants then introduced themselves and learned about the goals of the workshop, shared by Lululeen Santos.
On the opening day, sessions included presentations from the FSM Department of Health and Social Affairs, the Pacific Community (SPC), and other regional partners. Key topics included results from the Family Health and Safety Survey, showing the situation of violence against women in Yap.
Day two, Different government departments – including Youth & Civic Affairs, Health, Public Safety, and the Attorney General’s Office – gave updates on their efforts to support EVAWG work.
The rest of the day focused on teamwork to build partnerships across all levels – from national to local – and to create an EVAWG services directory for Yap. Participants also planned future activities, including a 2025 calendar of events.
