November 2–6, 2026 | Honolulu, Hawaii

The Yap U.S. Military Operations (YUMO) Taskforce’s Representatives, along with its legal and

technical advisers, is taking part in a three-day Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS)

Tiger Team Bilateral Engagement with the U.S. Joint Task Force–Micronesia’s (JTFM)

technical team in Honolulu, Hawaii from November 2–4, 2026.

The meetings are part of the ongoing discussions between the Yap State Government and DOW’s

regional command regarding the proposed military construction projects in Yap. The main

purpose is to review the FEIS, discuss environmental concerns, and look at ways to reduce

possible impacts on Yap's environment, cultural sites, natural resources, and communities.

Engagement Highlights:

During the sessions, both teams will review important sections of the FEIS, discuss technical

findings, and go over comments and recommendations submitted by Yap State. Discussions will

focus on protecting marine and land environments, preserving cultural and historical sites, and

addressing possible impacts from the proposed airport, seaport, and other related developments.

Representing Yap State's Interests:

The YUMO Taskforce Rep’s and advisers will continue to raise concerns shared by Yap's

communities, traditional leaders, government agencies, and other stakeholders during these

sessions.

Some of the main concerns include protecting coral reefs, impacted marine resources, cultural

sites, water and power utilities, and land that may be affected by the proposed projects. Yap's

representatives will seek clarification on how these concerns are addressed in the FEIS and what

measures are being proposed to reduce their impact.

The YUMO Taskforce will continue working to ensure that Yap State's interests are represented

throughout these discussions.
